Casa Emilie Wins Prize with First LEGO League
First LEGO League is a program that invites children and youth ages 4 to 16 to investigate and propose creative solutions, including designing projects that benefit their communities through science and technology. During the 2023-2024 cycle, “Masterpiece,” students learned how to leverage science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to share their passion for the arts with others. The Casa Emilie team participated virtually in the competition in Chiapas, Mexico, and won first place in the Social Impact category.
CEI Meal Program Opens Up to Entire Families
For more than two decades, Centro de Esperanza Infantil, supported financially by OYE and Canadian Friends of Oaxaca (CANFRO), has served daily meals to the students in its program. We are thrilled to announce that the meal program now includes all family members. Parents and siblings of CEI students can now share a meal in either center, Casa Jodi or Casa Emilie.
The change has resulted in the number of meals served doubling to 8,135 during the first six months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. These numbers highlgiht the continued need to address food insecurity in Oaxaca.
When my mother learned of CEI, I knew that I had a good opportunity to stay in school. Now, I am graduating with a degree in medical surgery and will pursue a specialty, perhaps traumatology. I have an older brother who is now an engineer and two younger sisters who are enrolled in CEI.
